Inspired by a deep conversation in Cape Town with my friends this painting is a tribute to the real owners of African lands—the black communities who came long before others. The black hand in the center stands for that heritage and highlights the persistent wealth disparities in South Africa.
The almost invisible white hand represents collaboration and the unity of differences that make Cape Town, the “Mother City,” so special—a place where people from diverse roots, languages, and cultures can coexist and build a welcoming environment.
This piece is also an invitation to focus on hope and possibility, even where challenges are strong. I have always believed that seeing the good allows you to create it. If you can envision a world of equality and peace, even in your heart and mind, you can help make it real.
