Mar Adentro is inspired by the Terrazza Mascagni in Livorno, Tuscany—a place of my childhood and a tribute to my grandfather Carmelo, whose warmth, wisdom, and joy shaped my early years. Livorno, a city of the sea, reflects the deep connection I feel with water: a connection that stays with you, no matter where you are.

The painting captures the feeling of being one with the sea—riding waves, floating, or simply letting the water hold you. It is a reflection of belonging: the sea welcomes without borders, blurring lines between water and sky, horizon and infinity. From certain angles, the Terrazza Mascagni’s flooring emerges subtly beneath the waves, a nod to the proudly Tuscan spirit that shaped this view.

Mar Adentro is also about calm and balance: how the sea can soothe pain and agitation, turning turbulence into serenity, weight into freedom, and giving perspective to the beauty that surrounds us.
